I usually shoot beach portrait sessions near sunset so that the light falls softly on my subjects' face with the water behind them. But this family needed to have their portraits shot in the morning! It was a bit of a challenge since the sun comes up over the water and thus was at their backs, but I used a strong flash to fill in their faces and the yellow "rim light" of the sun behind them created a nice effect that I don't normally get in the evenings. The whole family was enthusiastic about the shoot, which made my job easier.
Two sisters shared this beach photo session, so I shot photos of both of their families. To me, this photo of the two sisters, which I converted to black and white, shows their close connection.
